Ask a Pol asks:

Are any of the changes that senators are making worrying you or not yet — they just need to pass it?

Key Hill:

“No, I think they've worked hard to find consensus in the Senate,” Chair French Hill exclusively tells Ask a Pol. “We are staying in touch with them on amendments that they're taking, the approach they've done in their bill and we look forward to working with them on crafting the final product.”

ICYMI — All eyes still on the Senate…

Caught our ear:

Do you expect a formal conference committee between Senate and House on stablecoin?

“It's too early to say what will be the final legislative process between the House and the Senate,” Hill tells us. “That's something we're still discussing.”

TRANSCRIPT: Rep. French Hill

SCENE: Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo runs into House Financial Services Committee Chair French Hill as he was leaving an early morning Republican conference meeting before Congress left town for their Memorial Day recess.

Matt Laslo: “How important is it that stablecoin made it through the first hurdle in the Senate?”

French Hill: “Yeah, I thought it was good. I want to congratulate [Sens.] Bill Hagerty, Tim Scott, Sen. [Kirsten] Gillibrand and Sen. [Cynthia] Lummis on working through Senate Democrat objections to the draft and getting them to a point where they can support at least a closure vote.”

ML: “Yeah?”

FH: “Yeah.”

ML: “Do you — are any of the changes that they're doing worrying you or not yet? They just need to pass it?”

FH: “No, I think they've worked hard to find consensus in the Senate. We are staying in touch with them on amendments that they're taking, the approach they've done in their bill and we look forward to working with them on crafting the final product.”

ML: “And do you expect, like, a formal conference committee on this?"

FH: “I think it's too early to say what will be the final legislative process between the House and the Senate. That's something we're still discussing.”

ML: “Because it might not be needed?”

FH: “We're still discussing it.”

ML: “Yeah? We'll be watchin. Have a good one.”
