Who?
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX)
LISTEN: Laslo & Roy
Ask a Pol asks:
Why’d you and a handful of other Republicans oppose the Rule to move forward with the Senate-passed stablecoin measure, the GENIUS Act?
Key Roy:
“The Senate version, the GENIUS Act, leaves some room for some concerns with respect to the central bank digital currency, with there not being a hard ban on that,” Rep. Chip Roy tells Ask a Pol. “And we had some other things in our version of the bill with respect to clarity, which, again, deals with the market structure things that we think are incredibly important.
Caught our ear:
“We’ve got some more work to do,” Roy told us.*
*we spoke with Roy ahead of his meeting at the White House Tuesday evening, which President Donald Trump said was successful.
“After a short discussion, they have all agreed to vote tomorrow morning in favor of the Rule,” Trump tweeted on Truth Social during the meeting.

Below find a rough transcript of Ask a Pol’s exclusive interview with Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), slightly edited for clarity.
TRANSCRIPT: Rep. Chip Roy (7-15-2025)
SCENE: After helping defeat the Rule to move forward with debating the Senate-passed stablecoin measure, the GENIUS Act on Tuesday afternoon, Rep. Chip Roy explains his vote on the Capitol steps.
Chip Roy: “Hey look, I’ve been predominantly focused on Texas flooding, and so we get back into town and they have this stuff in the Rule that we had some concerns with.
“They put the bill on the floor, the Senate version, the GENIUS Act, leaves some room for some concerns with respect to the central bank digital currency, with there not being a hard ban on that.
“And we had some other things in our version of the bill with respect to clarity, which, again, deals with the market structure things that we think are incredibly important.
“So we feel like we need to be dealing with this all at once and the central bank digital currency, so we’ve got some more work to do.”
