Ask a Pol asks:

How you feeling about the stablecoin measure before the Senate?

Key Gallego:

“Feeling good. I mean, the progress has continuously been good,” Sen. Ruben Gallego — who helped spearhead the recent Democratic revolt to the bipartisan GENIUS Act that’s before the US Senate over $TRUMP meme coins — exclusively tells Ask a Pol. “The agreements that we’ve struck have been very good. I think everyone on both sides have been working really in an honest manner to bring a good strong bill to the floor.”

Landmine ahead…?

Do you think the Durbin-Marshall amendment would kill the bipartisan stablecoin measure?

“I think it would,” Gallego says.

Caught our ear:

“I'm in favor of just keeping this as close to digital currency and stablecoin as possible,” Gallego tells us of the GENIUS Act which is facing an onslaught of 60+ amendments on the Senate floor.

Lot of moving parts in Congress right now…

What should we ask Congress next?

RG: “The, you know, the agreements that we’ve struck have been very good. I think everyone on both sides have been working really in an honest manner to bring a good strong bill to the floor.”

ML: “But it's still not there?”

RG: “Well…”

ML: “You guys still don’t have amendments negotiated?”

RG: “We, we’re — well, that’s actually not right. We actually have a lot of amendments negotiated, language negotiated.”

ML: “Yeah?”

RG: “It’s just right now, you know, I think to give credit to Republicans, they want to see if they can get more Dem votes. They’re actually negotiating, kind of, the smaller pieces with individual senators now.”

ML: “Interesting. Do you think the Durbin-Marshall bill — or amendment — would kill it, potentially or…?”

RG: “I think it would.”

ML: “Yeah?”

RG: “I think there’s a lot of people that would — you know, whether they want to vote for it or not, they think that attaching this would actually probably, you know, not bring the votes it needs to take it over, to move it forward.”

ML: “So are you in favor of not bringing that up?”

RG: “Yeah. I'm in favor of just keeping this as close to digital currency and stablecoin as possible.”

ML: “Cool.”

Laslo waves his colleague who was patiently waiting in the wings to ask her question.

Reporter: “Senator, last week some Republicans said, you know, do we really need a wall? (INAUDIBLE) A few of them are kind of skeptical about the amount of money that (INAUDIBLE) is asking for. What do you think of that? You think…”

RG: “I think like, I think walls with proper backup security can do well to actually provide overall core security. I think one continuous wall is not going to provide much of anything unless it’s, you know, again, targeting certain areas. The other thing you got to remember, is I don’t think a lot of people understand, yeah, it’s the desert, but these things break down pretty fast, right? The wear and tear of weather, rain, snow, you have snow out there too, and Russ will actually (INAUDIBLE), so, you know putting a big price tag on something that’s going to end up costing us, a lot of us to maintain, versus focusing on the fact that (INAUDIBLE) security can bring, I think is what we’re missing here.”

ML: “Thank you sir.”
